Miss. Salha Haji Omar, from Mpapa Secondary School, was awarded a university scholarship for winning the Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival schools writing competition.

Miss. Salha Haji Omar, from Mpapa Secondary School, was awarded a university scholarship for winning the Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival schools writing competition.
The founder of Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival, Mr. Abeid Amani Karume, and the Minister of Education, Mr. Ramadhan Abdalla Shaban, awarded the scholarship to Miss. Omar at a public ceremony at Mpapa Secondary School on Monday 26th of April.
Mr. Karume said: “Salha, when you graduate we expect you to become a productive member of our society, and where ever you may reach do not forget your past and your country. This scholarship will widen the goals and aspirations of its winners, and we wish them well in their endeavours.”
The festival's Writers for Peace' schools writing competition is designed to inspire school children and encourage them to nurture cultures that value education and peace. The second competition is due to be launched in May.
Miss Omar told us that: “I can’t believe that I have won a university scholarship. I have always dreamed of becoming a writer, and now my dream can become a realit
